What are Acai Berries?
Acai berries are a dark purple fruit that grow in bunches at the top of palm trees in the Amazon rain forests. Each berry contains just 10% fruit and pulp with a large UN-beneficial seed taking up the majority of the fruit. Acai berries have grown in huge popularity in recent years after appearing on Oprah's top 10 super-foods for being one of the most antioxidant foods on the planet, and is often referred to "Nature's Viagra". Acai Berries have amazing weight loss and anti-aging properties as well as a high amount of healthy fat, dietary fiber and phystosterols which help promote a healthy digestive system and cardiovascular health making it one of the true super-foods.
Due to the laborious process of picking the berries, and the amount of usable fruit per berry, it's usually sold in powder form having been freeze-dried within 24 hours of being picked to ensure the maximum nutritional benefits of the raw berries are retained.
Acai berry powder can be mixed in with water or fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies and juices. You may also try mixing it with yogurts, dressings, granola, homemade bars and deserts. Or just sprinkle it on anything you want like I do :)
